This is my wife's and my wedding video from 1990. It was amateur VHS footage which had, unfortunately, degraded quite a bit before I had it digitized about 10 years ago. As the magnetic particles that comprise VHS tape become unstable over time, the images lose their color and sharpness. I was only able to use close up shots, as the wide shots looked terrible and were not fixable using any editing tools.
As that limited what I had to work with, I incorporated our professional wedding photos into the video. In order to spice up the video, I enhanced many of the photographs to give them movement, depth, and style.
Since I didn’t have a lot of useable video footage, I utilized an effect called 3D Photo on several of the photos to give them a film-like look. This involves a multi-step editing process using Photoshop and After Effects in which, with added panning and zooming, the photo begins to like a movie. This process can be time consuming but it can really add to the production, especially if you are lacking in actual film/video content.
For the music, I chose one of my favorite love songs from the past 20 years from Wilco. The song “You and I” features a duet between Jeff Tweedy and special guest Canadian folk rock singer, Feist. The harmonies are incredible and the melody, intimate lyrics, and tempo were perfect for the imagery I had in mind.
